Sleeping is done in-play during an event except for those with specific medical needs. This means that strange creatures can come into your cabin at night while you're asleep. As such, it's important to fill out a set of cabin notes that list any and all defenses that you have for your cabin. These notes can be obtained during check-in.
If you pre-register, you can usually request the cabin and area where you want to stay during the event. You can also request specific cabin mates.
