Geography
The world of King's Gate is very earthlike, with most of its land masses laying to the north of an equator it enjoys weather and seasons not unlike those of Europe and, in the case of Gondal, the Asian steppes.

The Gondal continent is located on the eastern most portion of the known world and contrary to misconceptions is primarily composed of steppes (level, treeless grasslands), devoid of deserts.

To the west lays the continent of Brythenia which is home to the countries of Andrynn, Dechaine and Salceny. Its western most reaches are punctuated by an impassable series of mountains. Beyond these supposedly lay a series of lands called "The Nothing Lands" whose existence is purely speculative, based on unsubstantiated reports and the descriptions of travelers claiming to hail from this area.

At its northernmost extent of Brythenia lays Andyrnn which enjoys mild summers for the most part but northern and central portions of the country can suffer truly brutal winters as winds sweep down from the arctic regions across the Northern Sea. The portion of Andrynn along the Gulf of Rhys is sheltered somewhat from these extremes. Although not as productive agriculturally as its massive southern neighbor Dechaine, Andrynn does produce a substantial amount of foodstuffs, livestock, timber and textiles (wool and flax). Additionally, the coastal waters are rich and support a thriving coastal community.

Occupying the heartland of the Brythenian continent, Dechaine is the largest of the trinity of western nations both in terms of population and useable land. A large river system fans throughout the country merging and draining into the Crimson Sea to the south, allowing easy internal travel across the broad nation. The Sanguine Divide, an imposing series of mountains said to house the few remaining Trow in the world, forms a natural barrier to travel to the east and Salceny, creating a need for sea travel for any major passage between greater portion of the two nations. Dechaine's lands are vast and rich, in both agricultural and mineral wealth (at least by Brythenia standards). Its southwestern reaches are marshy and were considered almost useless, until ceded to the country's separatist Slana'ar.

In the southeastern corner of the Brythenia lays Salceny. Although possessing only modest natural resources, Salceny benefits from several excellent harbors from which to base its naval and mercantile empire. Favorable tradewinds make journeys from Salceny to its northern neighbors and distant Gondal easier here than elsewhere.

Creatively placed midway between Gondal and Brythenia, little is known of the true location or geography of Wizard's Isle or Kalyptra. Fanciful tales of sailors and talesmiths describe it a circular isle with pleasant lands and weather.

Of particular interest recently is the barony of King's Gate. Straddling the often blurred border of Dechaine and Andrynn, it is a heavily forested area with only a few inroads and rivers piercing the region. Scores of remnants in the forms of ruins and curiosities dot the rugged landscape, often difficult to spot even under the most favorable circumstances. Most travel between the two nations favors the more passable plains to the east of King's Gate, but some traffic now diverts to the area in response to the growing and eclectic population of the barony.

The northernmost reaches of the known world are inhospitable, clad in vast sheets of ice and devoid of most life. To the south tractless expanses of ocean are punctuated by tiny, scattered islands providing little of interest. Throughout the Anteric Ocean and Brythenian Sea, countless isles harbor all manner of curiosities, many of which are the subject of popular fiction or the more dubious contents of Paolo Bruciare's journals.
