History
What follows is an overview of major and formative events of the world of King's Gate. Players wishing a more in-depth view of the complicated and often obscured past, are strongly recommended to possess appropriate Lores and/or pursue such information during the course of play.

A millennia ago a cataclysm of epic proportions struck the world. Oceans rose, lands buckled and the very fabric of reality shuddered at the hand of some unknown instigation. This event is called the Sundering. Legends abound of advanced cultures from this time graced with arts, sciences and magics beyond the scope of the modern world. While most scholars concede that such an upheaval did occur, they are doubtful that a fanciful golden age existed in this period. Without a doubt, much was lost but the age of discovery we now dwell in must certainly be its equal or better.

The time immediately after the Sundering is poorly understood but some events do emerge, almost legendarily, out of this period. These mostly surround the rise of the Khan in Gondal, the invasion of Brythenia and the subsequent defeat/withdrawal of the invaders. Andrynn and Dechaine also trace their roots back to this period with unifying kings emerging from squabbling provinces and duchies to establish lineages that persevere to this day; doing much to create their respective cultural identities.

This period of expansionism and development lasted nearly six hundred years and was host to numerous wars, successions and periods of relative stability, punctuated by large scale clashes between Andrynn and Dechaine. This cycle ended abruptly when the internal conflict in Dechaine cumulating with the emergence of Salceny as an independent power some three centuries ago.

It is only from the 7th century forward that detailed historical observations began in earnest, rather than the traditional recording of events in the form of epics or literature (which are often prone to subjectivism and flexibility). The 7th century also saw the rise of the earliest guilds (primarily essential trades and services), government bureaucracies and the formalization of many magical and social organizations.

It was not until the 8th century, however, that a catalyst of development truly began to be seen moving across society. It would primarily be fueled by the emergence of several key men and women introducing new thoughts and innovation, which for the first time began to percolate throughout the social strata instead of being isolated to esoteric orders and nobility. Because of its novel status, Salceny was host to many of these. Among these figures are Bruciare, Battaglia and Santiago. The phenomena was only isolated briefly as the spirit emerged in Dechaine and Andrynn just decades later in the likes of Roux, Solange, Valroux, Kinsale and others.

The recent century has been one of bewildering uncertainly. Thrust forward at a frenzied pace, society seems poised to either stumble and falter, such as the case of the Night of Crossed Steel and Magna Armata Decree, or steady itself and weather the metamorphosis.

The war between Dechaine and Andrynn has drawn to a close. The rightful King of Andrynn has taken his throne, the Khan of Gondal has solidified her power, and even the nation of Salceny seems to be sailing through reasonably smooth political waters. Still, technological and magical changes continue apace and dark things stir in the heart of the world.
