"We are the Spirit Guard. Warriors who have learned that in pain lies both power and enlightenment."
The Kelet were originally an elite guard to the Khan in Gondal. Their magic is now practiced more widely through the efforts of the mages of Kalyptra. The Kelet were formed of the most fanatic of warriors, men and women who would fight through any pain, any obstacle. That fierce resolve is still fostered in members of this order, even outside of Gondal. At heart, all Kelet are warriors and to continue that tradition, new initiates are required to learn the use of a bladed weapon. All Kelet keep their blades very close to them - they are the heart of their magic.
The spells of the Kelet are cast through runes. These runes can be engraved upon a blade or armor or even into one’s own flesh. Occasionally, runes will be drawn onto flesh, but more often these symbols are actually made with the caster’s own blade. The wound inflicted is very slight and heals as soon as the power of the rune has faded, but the Kelet strongly believe that the pain incurred in the casting focuses them for battle. The ritual scars visible upon her face or arms make a Kelet mage immediately recognizable. As a mage rises in circle, her Tengri, or sprit scar, becomes more and more intricate. Each mage’s scar is unique, reflecting the nature of the bearer.
Rules: Mages of this school rely upon a focus, the blade used to carve the runes of Kelet magic. It doesn’t have to be their primary weapon. They could fight with a sword and use a dagger as their focus. In addition, casters utilize the Naming during the carving of those runes.
Meditation: To meditate, a Kelet usually scribes 4 runes about herself at the 4 cardinal directions. The scribing of those personal runes helps her attune herself to cast Enchantments. Additional spells require that she retrace the runes.
Note on Runes: Many spells for the Kelet have a corresponding rune. The sample runes can be found at the end of this section. The required location for each rune is included in the spell description. “Weapon” indicates that the rune must be carved onto the weapon to be enchanted. “Armor” indicates that the rune must be carved onto the armor to be enchanted. “Recipient” indicates that the rune must be placed upon the recipient of the spell. “Cut” indicates that no rune is needed. Instead a cut must be made upon the caster using the caster’s focus blade. That wound must be touched before casting the spell. For example, Jenghis wants to cast several Blood Darts in the upcoming battle. Using his focus, he lightly cuts his left forearm. When he is ready to cast his first Blood Dart, he touches the wound with the packet while incanting the verbal, then he throws the packet within 2 seconds. For the 2nd Blood Dart, he does not need to make a new cut, but he does need to touch the cut again with the new packet. "Other" indicates special circumstances that will be explained in the spell description.
