The Court of Love has defined Dechaine for decades. It has been quite popular ever since its inception, and has since grown to be the only nationally accepted and loved institution or concept in all of Dechaine. People in every town and village eagerly await news of any
proclamations, decisions, opinions, or scandals from the Court of Love. Individuals in every corner of Dechaine breathlessly follow the doings of the Court and avidly discuss – often argue, and sometimes fight – over tales of amorous escapades, bruised egos, and romantic intrigues of anyone involved with the Court of Love. Men and women in every part of Dechaine whisper that if anything or anyone can bring unity to the Kingdom of Dechaine, it’s the Court of Love and the
powerful Queens who reign supreme.
Lest one think that the Court of Love is simply fuel for gossip, it must be mentioned that the Queen of the Court uses her influence to support the up and coming troubadours and artists of Dechaine. The Court of Love is the center of culture for the country. It also plays a large role in mediating arranged marriages, either for love, political gain, or to soothe fraying tensions between rivaling provinces. In addition, any young knight wishing to gain political influence had best pay attention to the tenets of the Court of Love. A strong sword arm may win accolades on the battlefield, but much of Dechaine’s political contests are fought through intrigue and no better training can be found than that offered through the Court of Love.
