There are priests, priestesses, and shamans through out the Fringe that serve the will of the Gods and Goddesses. There are no churches where Fringers may worship, but smaller temples are common on each planet. It is also common for priests, priestesses, and shamans to wander from town to town giving aid or helping however they can. They rely on the kindness of those around them to sustain them with food and shelter. Some Fringers may choose to dedicate themselves to a deity completely, while others may have a few favored deities’ they call upon for blessings for favors.
Each Fringer tends to interpret their relationship with the deity in their own fashion- some may keep shrines in their homes (or portable ones for travel), while others just stick with a fetish crafted from the local priests at the local temple. The only aspects of the deity’s that are universally celebrated are the festivals since Fringers will never miss an opportunity for a party. While most Fringers do have faith in their pantheon those that do not are still highly superstitious and usually have their own rituals and quirks about them that the fell helps them survive.
Fringers view stabilized mutations as a sign of being touched by the divine, they see physical manifestations as a finger print of the gods and that the person is touched and usually an oracle or prophet.
Tane
The deity highest favor is the star or sun god Tane. He is the giver of life and light. Generally depicted as a silhouette wreathed in light, Tane is worshiped across the fringe. Temples devoted to him are found on nearly every world. . He is depicted as a silhouette wreathed in light. He is sometimes equated with the Imperials One god and is often used as a religious basis for conversion to the Imperial Dogma. It is said he rules from afar and his light brings life to all that it touches. The faith of Tane states that time began when he awoke from a long slumber. He sat up rubbing the sleep from his eyes and shaking off the dust of sleep. This debris became planets and heavenly bodies, as his eyes looked across the void at these planets he noticed that they were slowly being consumed by the chaos of Nidregg, so he concentrated and everywhere his gaze rested a star was born, its light pushing back the chaos and darkness of Nidregg. He then set about creating companions to help in his battle against the darkness of Nidregg and from the dust of nebula and comets he created the gods and goddesses.
Domhring
The god of war and strength in battle, he is depicted as an armored man made of solid gold covered in splatters of blood; his symbol is an axe, or a comet. Domhring is the quintessential warrior, he was created first by Tane to combat the void and its horrors, as Tane well knew the only way to fight fire was with fire itself so from the destructive forms of comets he forged an unstoppable warrior to combat the darkness. Sadly Tane not knowing yet of his lesser creations made Domhring imperfect and as he raged and fought he sadly also destroyed much in his path, although unlike the oblivion of void this destruction was pure and from it was birthed the goddess Jerda, who in a sense is the Daughter of Domhring and Nidregg hence her dual nature.
Jerda
The goddess of death and rebirth she is depicted as a woman with two faces one lush and beautiful the other skeletal. Her symbol is a broken moon. When her father Domhring descended to the surface of worlds he did not notice the small frail creatures that were destroyed as he fought against the Chaos of Nidregg, from the death and blood of these unfortunates Jerda was born. Tane was distraught at all of the lesser creatures that had been destroyed by his son, had he known he could have planned and protected them, so he embraced his granddaughter and set her to watch these creatures so that he may know of their passing and that she may help their energies find new vessels to inhabit when their old ones were spent.
Nornir
The goddess of thought, she is depicted as a beautiful woman who never touches the ground, her symbol is a book. Because he had not known of his lesser creations Tane began to worry that there were other things he may be ignorant of, so from the vast clouds and dust of the Nebula he created Nornir to seek out and find everything and record it for him so that he would not cause any further suffering inadvertently.
Nornir roams the universe collecting every scrap of knowledge so that Tane may know all. Her first report to Tane was of the lesser creatures and of their suffering, how they hungered and eventually were destroyed by violence against each other over sustenance or were taken by the disease and corruption of Nidregg. , this troubled Tane greatly and he devised a way to help ease the suffering of the lesser creatures.
Clotho
The god of time and fertility, depicted as a man made of wicker and barley. His symbol is the wheat sheath. Clotho was created by Tane from the waters of many worlds.
Clotho was created to sow the galaxy with plants and even lesser animals so that the children that Tane now called man, would not have to prey on one another to sooth their hunger, Tane then noticed that his Children could create their own children by coming together, so he set Clotho to also watch over this and to protect the children from Nidregg and her corruption. Tane was then satisfied that all of his children would not want, and he set his sight on driving back the darkness.
Fringers believe that to harm a child is a grievous sin; any who do is subject to the wrath of Clotho. This is one of the many reasons why The Imperials and Fringers disagree do to the imperials practice of abortion and sterilization.
Nidregg
The goddess of destruction and chaos, depicted as a vortex of swirling water or space, her symbol is the spiral, few actually worship Nidregg but her name is a common curse throughout human space. Nidregg is the void, the space between worlds and outside the gateways. she is formless and idiotic birthing abomination after abomination that’s soul purpose is to extinguish the light of life, it is said that the light of Tane is repellent to her and her progeny, and that she strives to extinguish his light forever so that she may rule unhindered throughout space and time.
Fringers believe that Disease is a curse from Nidregg, if one is diseased then they did something wrong.
